The
UK
The Pedley Wheel obtained DTI Accreditation in 2006. Now the only
UK-produced electricity generating water wheel-driven system, installers
can apply for grant aid to The Low Carbon Building Programme (www.clear-skies.org)
quoting Pedley Wheel Accreditation Number: HT 8039.
The latest Pedley Wheel UK installation is at Stornoway, Isle of Lewis
(with visitor centre), completed in 2005. Click on www.stornowayamenitytrust.co.uk
for more information. The wheel replaces the last Stornoway mill water
wheel burned down in 1900, and generated electricity supplies local
amenities with surplus to the national grid.
More Pedley Wheels are planned for the UK ranging from giant six metre
diameter public area wheels down to the new baby 'Pico' wheel which,
at two metres diameter and producing up to two kW, is ideal for small
sites and DIY installations.
